TuffBrane™ AEM membrane is a non-reinforced Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) with low resistance, high conductivity, and chemically stable in 1-14pH environments, and comes in various sizes.

The membrane may be delivered as a clear or thin brown film, and may be delivered on a backing foil (colorless rigid PET foil). If supplied on a backer, remove the membrane carefully, as it may be fragile from transit. The membrane is typically delivered in dry form, but may be delivered saturated in deionized water.

Spark Ionx membranes are highly sensitive to differences in humidity and moisture content. Therefore, the membranes can vary +/- 0.5cm from the original cut sizes. Due to this sensitivity, wrinkles in the film are expected to form, however soaking the membrane in deionized water will return the membranes to the full-size planar state.

Suitable AEM applications include: Electrodialysis for demineralization, desalination, capacitive deionization and others; AEM water electrolysis using alkaline or carbonate electrolyte; AEM fuel cell; Redox flow batteries; Metal air batteries; and more. This membrane works well in alkaline solutions up to 2 Molar.
•    Stability range (pH) at 25 ºC: 1 – 14
•    Thickness: 30-100 micrometers depending on specification

  • Keep membrane package closed / sealed when unused. Unpack membrane only for direct use and process immediately after opening. Store, handle and process the membrane in a clean and dust-free area. Always wear protective gloves when handling the membrane. Handle with care, be sure not to puncture, crease or scratch the membrane, otherwise leaks will occur. All surfaces which may get into contact with the membrane during inspection, storage, pretreatment and mounting must be free of sharp edges or angles.
